History of Milford Camogie Club

Milford camogie club was formed in January 1997. Milford Camogie Club officers in 1997 were: Cathaoirleach; Ann Watson, Runai; Lelia Long, Treasurers; Breda Fitzgibbon and Helen Sheeny, P.R.O; Triona O' Friel, delegate to the county board; Claire Donegan. Sheila Golden (Cathaoirleach of Cork County Board), Marian McCarthy (vice-chairperson), and Noreen Mannix of Grenagh Camogie Club attended the first meeting. Before forming the club the Milford girls won All-Ireland Community Games in 1996 and 1997 and numerous Sciath na Scoil competitions, coached by Sheila Thompson NT. and Ann Watson. The club caters for all age groups of girls in the parish and is a great source of recreation for our youth.

The club has won every county title from under 12 to Senior B as well as reaching the Feile Na nGael finals in 1999 and 2007 and the All-Ireland semi-final in 2000. It has won the All-Ireland Kilmacud 7's in 2005 as well as the All-Ireland under 16 A and Senior Pan Celtic Finals in 1999 and 2005. These young ladies have distinguished themselves in the local teams and in the camogie successes of St. Mary's Charleville and Hazelwood College Dromcollogher. Many of these girls have represented Cork at inter-county level, which included three members of the Milford club captaining Cork's three in a row minor teams. They were:

Maria Watson 2001

Elaine O' Riordan 2002

Anna Geary 2003

In 2009, Grainne Sheehy won the All-Ireland Feile Na nGael skills competition. The Milford Camogie Club continues to grow and provide a good healthy sport for all the girls in the parish.
